So yesterday morning I was riding in the packed subway on my way to work. I was reading a book while standing closely behind a guy. Then suddenly... I sneezed. And I did a Zidane to the back of his head. Of course, he wasn't happy.
昨日の朝、いつもの通り、満員電車に乗って会社に向いました。そこら辺のオッサンの後ろに立って、本を読んでいたら。。。「ハックション！」。。。と同時にジダンのように、オッサンの後頭部に頭突きを一発かました。勿論、凄い目で睨まれた。すんません、オッサン。

Para un jóven que tiene padres de diferentes nacionalidades, es un video muy divertido. Las cosas que pasan a Joe en Japón son precisamente las que me ocurren a mí! Lo del telefono!?!?! Chistosisimo!! Pero en realidad, no sé cuantas personas pueden reálmente compartir los sentimientos de Joe... Bueno, por lo menos yo! Y también me alegre saber que hay otros como yo en este país. Hey it's mother's day! Happy mother's day mom! Thanks for everything.
My mother often complains about how she can't sleep. So when I read about this "sleep machine" shown above, I thought if this thing existed commercially, it would've been the best mother's day present. It basically stimulates the brain with magnetic pulses, which somehow triggers slow waves typical of deep sleep. Gees, wonder if it's dangerous...
My dad on the other hand, can sleep anywhere, anytime, under any conditions, instantaneously. And I'm glad I got his genes! So falling asleep is also not an issue for me; it usually takes under 3 min. But a big problem is getting up in the morning!! It's the hardest freakin' thing on earth, and I've gotta do it every single day...such is God's humour.
So, to assist me in my daily hardships, I think I should definitely buy the "Clocky", which is an alarm clock that runs away from you when it goes off! Check it out in the video below!
Any other suggestion for getting me up in the morning folks? What's that? "Sleep more" you say?... eh... I don't think so. Read my philosophy here and you'll know why.
母の日だ！母ちゃん、いつもありがとう。
うちの母ちゃんは不眠症だから、いつも薬飲んで寝たりするんだよ。だから、上の図に示されているスリープ・マシーンが実際に売られていたら、プレゼントとし買ってあげたいなと思った。なんか、脳を磁場で刺激して、それが脳に深い眠り中のスロー・ウェーブを発生させると言うもの。つうか、危なくないのかな。。。それにしても、そんなもの付けてたら、自分のマヌケな姿に笑いが止まらなくて、逆に寝れないじゃないかな。。。
母ちゃんの正反対であるオヤジはいつでも、どこでも、どのような状況下でも寝れる。瞬間着眠。俺はオヤジの遺伝子を受け継いでよかったよ。俺も着眠時間３分をこすことはごく稀。のびたに負けねえぞ！でも、逆に問題は朝なんですよ！起床というのは世の中で一番辛いことだと思うのに、それを毎日やらなければならないと言うのが神様のいたずら。
そこで、毎日の起床という一大事の助っ人として、下のビデオに出るClockyを買おうかなと思っている。この目覚ましは鳴り始めると逃げ回るの！凄くない！？！
他に何か起床の苦痛を和らげてくくれる良い方法ないかな。。。みんな、教えてよ。え？なに、「もっと寝ろ」って？それは無理。俺はこう言う考え方の人だから。

I love kids! Here are some kid-related stuff that I thought I'd share with you. Maybe I'm ready to have a couple of my own soon! My buddy Greg's twins are due soon... Looking forward to that. The baby puking is one that I got from my friend Diane. The same friend that sent me this. These are things that causes babies! Here's also a weird one that talks about the youngest mother in the world. 5 years-old!! Incredible.
僕は子供が大好きです。だから、今日は幾つか子供関係のものを記事にしようかと。やっぱり、そろそろ欲しい時期かなあ。。。親友のグレッグも５月には双子のパパ！ハア。。。羨ましいね。上のゲボのクリップはカナダの友達からもらった。うん、これを送ってくれた人と同一人物。最近結婚したんだよね。あと、変な記事を２つ。一つ目は世界一若いお母さんの話。５才だよ！「１４才の母」なんて目じゃない！もう一つの方は日本の子供の「幸せ感」。と言うか、「不幸せ感」と言った方が正しいでしょう。
When I went to Ecuador (a long time ago), I took a bus on a long trip from Quito to Esmeraldas with my buddy Greg. I remember we sat at the back of the bus where there were a couple of guys who brought guitars. So basically we just sang and partied with total strangers in a bus! That was so much fun.
Well, that was in Latino-America, where everyone is genetically predetermined to be jolly and sociable. But here's a clip of a wonderful group called Naturally 7 (don't know if they are pro's or not), who got the crowd going in a subway in Paris! As one guy pointed out in the comments, it would definitely be fun to see them in a jam-packed Japanese subway!

でも、ラテン人って、陽気遺伝子を持っているから、そんなんの幾らでもある話。今日はなんと、パリの地下鉄で同じ様なことをやった「Naturally 7」と言うグループのビデオを紹介する。プロなのか、アマなのかは分からないけど、あまりの上手さに、ガチガチのパリ人たちだって、ノリノリ！次はやっぱり、世界ガチガチ人間王国である日本の地下鉄でもやってもらいたいぜ！

日本では、山口もえやさとう珠緒などの若干とろいイメージの女性をからかうじゃないですか。それと同じように、アメリカ、カナダでは金髪の女性をからかう事が多い。なぜか、「金髪美女」＝「天然ボケ」と言うアソシエーションをするので、ブロンド・ジョークというジョークのカテゴリーまである。例えば、「ブロンドがパソコンを使った一番の証拠はなに？」=「画面が修正液だらけ。」だとか、「ブロンドとブロンドの間に座っている茶髪はだれ？」＝「通訳」など、など。
へへへ。。。金髪でなくても当てはまる女の子を何人か知っていると思うけど。。。

The title of this blog is “2006: A New Start for Tetsu”. Without going into details and enumerating things, I would just like to say that it was a wonderful year during which countless good things happened, many of which will have changed my life forever, and I’ll have my parents, co-workers, and friends to thank.
So, obviously, this blog was started in 2006. End of February to be precise. At first I wrote about two entries per week. Then with the start of my MBA, the pace dropped to once per week (and sometimes less). In total, there are about 75 entries, and below is my selection of the most popular or most memorable posts.
このブログのタイトルは ”2006: A New Start for Tetsu” 、「２００６：哲の新たなスタート」です。あまり深入りはしませんが、ただ一つ言いたいのは、本当に色んな良い事があった一年でした。これも、親、職場の上司・仲間、そして友人たちのお陰です。心の底から感謝します。

A. CPR. Never used it though. Anyone wanna choke or drown in my presence to test me out? Well, it's been more than 10 years that I have it, so... my apologies if I don't succeed in savin' ya!

A. CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)。日本語では、「心肺蘇生法」。まだ一度も役に立っていないな〜。。。誰か、俺の目の前で喉に何かつっかえたり、溺れたりしてくんない？。。。でも、実際この資格を取ったのは１０年前なので。。。死なしちゃったら、ごめんね。
9. Have you experienced sleepless nights? Any tricks on getting through them?
A. You're not asking the right guy as I can usually fall asleep within 3 min. Yes, every 2-3 years, I get one of those sleepless nights. How to get through...? Well, if it takes too long, I usually just get up and study or do some other productive thing with the time.
9. 悩んで眠れない夜を過ごした経験がありますか。
・もしあれば、どう乗り越えたか、ヒントを。
A.着眠時間＜３分のオイラでも、２−３年に一度は眠れない夜が訪れます。乗り越え方。。。うん。。。本当に駄目なときは時間がもったいないので、起きて、勉強するなり、何かためになる事をする。

A. Like: Too many to list. Dislike: Hmmm...not many. If I had to say something, I'd say potatoes? But then again, I like chips and fries.

After writing the last post on the poor dogs in China, I thought I'd tell you about a cute animal site that I follow with RSS. It's call Cute Overload, and basically they post photos of cute animals from around the world on their blog. It's very rare that I don't get a smile from checking out this site. Try it, it'll make your day. And if you like it, here's another one called Lets Be Friends. It's not as big though. But still very nice. Anybody know of other such sites?

Here a fun little game that I got from @aka-san's blog a while back. His blog is always full of great info, tips, and fun stuff like this one. This game basically measures how fast you type. After doing it for a couple of times, I average around 70-80 wpm and 300-320 cpm. What's shown at the bottom is my record. This must be fun for those who work on the computer all day long. Com'on everybody! Break my record!
いつも見ている@akaさんのブログからまたもオモロいものを頂いてきました。@akaさんのブログにはいつもブログに関する情報とか、ちょっとしたトリックやノーハウ、そしてこのような面白いゲームなどがいっぱい記載されています。基本的にこれは自分のタイピング速度を測ってくれるゲームです。何回かやった結果、平均としては７０−８０wpm、３００−３２０cpm。下に書いてあるのが俺の最高記録です。毎日パソコン使って仕事している皆さん、面白いよ〜。みんな、俺のスコアーを破ってくれ！
Top WPM = 86.73 wpm (words per minute；一分間に入力したワード数)
Top CPM = 361.71 cpm (characters per minute；一分間に入力した文字数)
I love learning about myself and have previously posted on personality and other psycho tests. Well today I present you with something that I found in my marketing textbook. It's called a VALS Survey. This survey is based on the assumption that consumers can be classified into 8 different categories (see picture), depending on psychological traits. The idea is that the group to which you belong tells marketers how you would behave as a consumer, and of course, how you would respond to certain marketing strategies.
I did the test twice on different days, but I got identical answers. My primary group is INNOVATORS and my secondary group is ACHIEVERS. So, according to the descriptions, I have innovative ideas and the resources to carry them out. It also said that I like spending on products that saves me time. So true. If anybody is selling "time", I'm interested!
So what kind of a consumer are you!?
僕は自分を知る事が好きです。前にもパーソナリティーテストやそれに似たお遊びに関する記事を書きました。今日はマーケティングの教科書で見た「VALSテスト」を紹介します。このテストによると、消費者の心理と言うのは、八つのカテゴリーに分類される（図）。各カテゴリーの消費者に対して、それに当てはまるマーケティング戦略が用いられる。
僕はこのテストを二回別々の日にやりましたが、結果は一緒。まず僕は「イノベーター（改新者）」の傾向が一番強くて、その次は「アチーバー（達成者）」だそうです。いろいろと解説を読むと、基本的に僕はアイディアがいっぱいあって、それらを実現させるため（達成ってこれかな？）、ものをいっぱい買う。そして、経済的にも、必要な商品を買う余裕がある（良いカモ？）。商品、またはその機能としては主に時間を稼いでくれるものを好む。うん、確かにそうだ。何でも、早ければ早いほど良い。金で直接「時間」を購入できたら、いま直ぐにでも買いたいよ！
さて、皆さんはどの消費者のタイプかな？
（追伸。VALS-JAPANと言うページはありますが、このテストは残念ながら、英語版しかない。でも、短いから直ぐ出来ますよ！）

I recently applied to the Novartis Biocamp 2006 and GOT IN! Beautiful. 20 biotech-minded people were selected based on his/her CV and an essay on his/her Biotech-related vision. I don't know how many people applied, but I'm sure glad I got in, 'cuz you know what!? 2 of the 20 participants will be selected to go to the International Novartis Biocamp in Singapore in October! So I have a 1/10 chance to go to Singapore...ALL EXPENSES PAID OF COURSE!
Anywho, maybe sleep deprivation is finally catching up with me, but I'm gonna add this COMPLETELY unrelated material into this post and leave you with this funny exercise that I got from my great buddy Greg's dad (Yvon). As a drummer, I thought this would be easy but... well... you try.
1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.
2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand, without your foot changing direction!
...ha ha ha...not easy eh?
この前、外資系の大手製薬会社ノバルティスが主催しているNovartis Biocamp 2006に応募しました。選考基準は本人の履歴書とバイオテクの分野においてのビジョン・夢を語る作文です。応募件数は知らないけど、20名の参加者の一人として選ばれた！やったねテッちゃん！頑張って作文書いた甲斐があったよ！さらに！このバイオキャンプで2人が選ばれて、シンガポールで開催される国際大会の方に招待される！ってことは10%のチャンスでシンガポールのただ旅行に行ける！ワクワク！
ここで、極端に話を変えます。大親友のグレッグのオヤジ(Yvon)から面白いお遊びを教えてもらったので、紹介するよ。自分はドラマーとして、こんなの楽勝だろうと思ったけど。。。まあ、やってみそ。
１．椅子に座って、右足を上げて、時計回りの方向に回す。
２．同時に空中で右手を使って「6」の字を書く。ただし、足の回転方向は変えちゃダメ！
。。。へへへ。。。どう？難しいでしょう！

Pisa and Taipei 101.
昨日の記事に書いた通り、様々な問題によって、データ、メール、個人ファイル、写真などが消えました。もう、なんか、やる気無いです。四日後にカナダに帰ってゆっくりできるのは超タイムリー。今も開き直っていろいろとブロギングしています。そこで、前から見ていた小林さんのブログをもう一回詳しく見たら、色んな面白いものが出てきたり、またはリンクで面白いページへ飛んだりしました！
